On the afternoon of May 24th, one of the events at the “2018 Shanghai Science and Technology Festival” – Awarding Ceremony for “May4 Outstadning Youth” was held at Shanghai Science and Technology Museum.

On the ceremony, the intelligent transportation team of Information and Communications at SITI achieved the honorary title of “2017 Science and Technology System Youth Brigade”, and Dr. Zhimin Wang, director of stem cell research and application platform of Biomedicine at SITI achieved the “2017 Shanghai May4 Medal”.

Also on the ceremony, Mr. Fanrong Kong, leader at the Public Space for Group Innovation at SITI, was invited to give a talk about the entrepreneurship “stories” at the Yangpu Micro and Small Enterprise Incubator Platform.

The event stimulated young researchers to firm ideals and beliefs and set up aims, to release vitality and energy in the practice of innovation and entrepreneurship, demonstrating youth talents through carrying out various missions.

 

“2017 Science and Technology System Youth Brigade”

The intelligent transportation team of Information and Communications at SITI is composed of young talents with average age of 26. Led by Mr. Xuesong Cai, vice director of Information and Communications, the team participated the project of “Key Technology of Beidou Navigation and Positioning Service and its Industrializaion”, which achieved “2016 Shanghai Science and Technology Awards: Special Award for Science and Technology Progress”.

Aiming at “changing our city with intelligence”, the team persists on “innovation as priority, standards as basis, providing open services” and plays well the role of hub with propelling function. In the construction of smart city, the deployment goes first to intelligent transportation and internet of lamps with applications of IoT, cloud computing, big data, and Beidou Navigation. An open application service framework has been established to provide one stop solution for government and enterprises with combination of hardware and software. To satisfy the needs of citizen’s outing and propel the informatization of public facilities, the team accomplished the installation of 350 intelligent bus stops and 1000 solar energy poles of e-signs in Pudong New District before the end of 2017 to provide bus arrival forecast information.

 

“2017 Shanghai May4 Medal”

Dr. Zhimin Wang, senior research fellow, director of research planning, China National Human Genome Center at Shanghai, team leader of Department of Genetics, director of stem cell research and application platform, executive vice director of Shanghai Hescheler Institute at Shanghai Industrial Technology Institute.

Dr. Wang focuses on technology innovation oriented towards clinical needs and applications and mainly engaged in stem cell controlled differentiation and large-scale production, stem cell bank and biological sample library solutions, disease models and disease mechanism research, interdisciplinary projects and the development of various products relevant with cell technology industrialization.

At present, the stem cell team led by Dr. Wang has successfully developed cardiomyocytes induced by clear factors, which can be applied to fundamental researches, new drug development, compound screening, toxicological determination and other physiological studies.

Dr. Wang has published 40 academic articles at domestic and international journals, including 30 SCI listed, and has 7 granted patents. As a member of dramatic parties, he pays close attention to the social problems in the new normal status and was awarded the honor of “outstanding individual” by the 93 Society, and national and Shanghai outstanding member by the 93 Society at its 70 year anniversary. He was elected as the representative at the Shanghai Municipal People's Congress and is member of the Central Youth Work Committee of the 93 Society.
