On the morning of May 23rd, China Unicom Shanghai Branch, Pudong New District Science, Technology and Economy Commission, and Shanghai Industrial Technology Institute Successfully signed the Strategic Collaboration Agreement on “Smart Pudong”, signaling the trail operation of the NB-IoT Industrial Application Incubation Platfrom in Pudong. The signing ceremony was held in the Jinqiao Branch of SITI, and Mr. Tang Shiqing, Vice chairman of the CPPCC at Pudong New District, and Director of Pudong New District Science, Technology and Economy Commission, Mr. Zhang Aiping, Vice Director of Pudong New District Science, Technology and Economy Commission, Mr. Yin Hong, Vice Director of Jinqiao Economy and Technology Development Zone Management Committee, Mr. Zhang Taoye, Vice GM of China Unicom Shanghai Branch, Mr. Deng Xuan, Vice GM of China Unicom Shanghai Branch, Mr. Niu Xiaoming, President of SITI, and Mr. Shi Qian, Vice President of SITI, attended the ceremony.

NB-IoT is Narrow Band Internet of Things with such features as wide-range coverage, low energy consumption, wide connection and low cost. Its high reliability and safety advantages also make it a good option for large scale IoT connection.

At the event, new generation products for NB-IoT are displayed, including products for more than 10 scenarios such as road lamps, river environment, electricity meters, smart transportation, intelligent parking, anti-fire, and fuel gas.

Representatives from China Unicom Shanghai Branch expressed the willingness to thoroughly carry out the content of the agreement and continue to regard Pudong New District as its most important business area and strategic development region for network construction. During the collaboration period, the company will invest in the infrastructure of Pudong New District such as trial commercialization of NB-IoT Special Network and 5G Network, national engineering laboratory for next generation internet broadband business applications, and IoT incubation base. As a comprehensive generic technology service platform, SITI integrates several industrial application categories which is beneficial to resource gathering and integrated application and promotion of NB-IoT technologies in the vertical industries for smart city construction.

In the collaboration, China Unicom Shanghai Branch and SITI will work together to propel NB-IoT terminal trial, verification and industrial incubation. With the new generation IoT communication technologies, tens of billions of terminals could be connected to IoT. The construction of Smart Pudong as well as development of smart manufacturing could be the opportunity to deepen the development of big data and propel its applications in urban management, industrial upgrading, etc. so that a whole industry chain big data ecosystem could be constructed in the future.
