Recently, the project of “Key Technologies and Industrialization of Beidou Navigation and Positing Services” with SITI as the main participant was rewarded the “2016 Special Award” at Shanghai Municipal Science and Technology Awards.

Beidou Navigation is the emerging industry in the national development strategies and strongly supported by Shanghai Municipality. The Engineering Center of Smart Transportation at SITI focuses on applications of public transportation information and constructed a green tech low carbon intelligent public transportation positioning service system, a highlight project in the whole Beidou project. The system is applied at the self-developed Beidou smart bus-carried terminals which are installed on more than 3600 buses in Pudong New District area, realizing position monitoring, coordination management and operation quality assessment of the buses, catering for the needs of accurate arrival prediction and intelligent management of buses. It satisfied the practical needs of citizens for their outings, realized solar energy low power controlling technology and long-term operation guarantee mechanism. It could provide bus arrival forecasting service even at those stations with now electricity power by using solar energy and the backstage long-distance monitoring, diagnosis and maintenance mechanism could largely reduce the cost of manual maintenance, so that the system could be applied in a very wide range and propel the informatization level of the public transportation stations in Shanghai to the frontline domestically.
