Dean of Research & Univ-Industry
President, Industry Academy Cooperation Foundation
Sejong University

Professor Kim received a Ph.D. degree at Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology (KAIST) in 1992 in the solar cells with CuInSe2 based materials. Afterwards, he worked as a senior researcher in Nuclear Materials Technology Development, Korea Atomic Energy Research Institute. Especially, he planned and carried out a project of energy storage system for dump power from nuclear power in 1998. So, honorably, he received the Chief Award from Korea Atomic Energy Research Institute in recognition of his studies for the second consecutive year.

He was appointed as an assistant professor at Sejong University in March, 2001 and was promoted to a full professor in March, 2008. Since then, he has conducted lots of researches such as Photocatalyst, E-ink display, Photo-elctrochemical cell and Rechargeable batteries and obtained numerous know-hows in development of materials and evaluation of the properties. Currently he has been working as director of research center for Nano & Advanced Material Engineering, South Korea, Dean of research & univ-industry in Sejong University and President of Sejong University industry academy cooperation foundation. Prior to this, he worked as director of Nano-Material Technology in National Research Foundation of Korea. He is running the research management team in the field of lithium ion batteries and the aim is high scientific standard. This research management team, supported by Sejong university fund, develops new materials and unique techniques. Specialist masters and doctorate students are fostered as well. In scholarship and research planning fields, he takes on various evaluation, examiner, edition staff of foreign journal Research & Reviews in internal conferences about nano-materials and ceramic, electrochemistry. Also he is a full member of The Korea Ceramic Society Materials Research Society of Korea, The Korean Institute of Metls and Materials, The Korean Institute of Electrical and Electronic Material Engineers, Fuel Cell Research Society and Photo Catalysis Research Society etc. Especially, he has received recognition for his brilliant ability and the record of publishing over 50 volume papers in photocatalyst field.

He has published numerous papers which are 167 SCI international papers, registered 14 international and 44 domestic patents and presented 131 international conferences. Consequently the total citations are more than 3300 with 33 H-index. Based on an excellent researches and accomplishment, he has made remarkably achievements in synthesis materials and electrochemical analytical methods. Those analytical techniques are significantly important to evaluate synthesized electrode and developed high capacity and efficiency rechargeable batteries such as lithium ion batteries, full cells, and air cells. He also has experience on fabrication of various oxide nanopowders such as TiO2, ZnO, LiMn2O4, LiCoO2, and Titanate Nanotubes for photocatalyst, secondary battery, and hydrogen storage materials to assist synthesized and developed new materials. These results create electrochemical energy storage systems and attribute to supply renewable and eco-friendly energy.
